Questionable Investments?

Is Loyola profiting from homeowners’ hardship?

Without transparency and oversight, it’s all too easy for institutions to fall into practices that hurt our communities. According to a 2017 IRS filing, Loyola invested in a company called Fortress Investment Group. One way Fortress makes money is buying up unpaid property tax debt and extracting back taxes, plus interest, plus fees, from homeowners. If homeowners can’t pay, Fortress can take their homes.

The last thing anyone wants is for Loyola to profit off foreclosing on someone’s home. Students and our community deserve to know if Loyola is still invested in Fortress or similar companies. Sign this petition calling for openness and a return to Jesuit values at Loyola.
