Secrecy of Loyola’s Board of Trustees

Did you know that Loyola’s Board of Trustees is charged with leading the university? Do you know who they are? Very few do.

What we do know is that the makeup of the Board increasingly tilts away from religious and Jesuit leaders towards corporate actors. Loyola’s bylaws for the Board of Trustees specify that of the 50 trustees, eight seats are reserved for members of the Jesuit order. However, as of September 2018, there were just 5 Jesuits on the board.

This concerning shift away from Loyola’s Jesuit roots raises questions about our moral leadership. The Board of Trustees, the body charged with running Loyola, reveals little about its investments and their impacts on the community and the planet.

We need leadership who will uphold our central values. Sign this petition calling on Loyola to do better.
