Following the passage of the Florida budget, Faculty Forward members and Hillsborough Community College sociology adjunct professor Cheryl DeFlavis issued the following statement:
“While yesterday’s budget staved off some of the most extreme efforts to destroy Florida’s higher education system, it did little to address the issues already plaguing it. At a moment when students and their families are already struggling to afford college, and adjunct professors like me are barely scraping by on poverty pay, the last thing we need is more of the same. Now is the moment to expand opportunity for Floridians by fighting for bold new ideas like free college for all and fair pay for instructors. Now is the time for our elected officials to invest in the potential of our young people and educators.”
