Mental Health Crisis on Campus
Addressing mental health issues among students, and in particular graduate students, is an increasing challenge on college campuses. At Loyola University Chicago, a recent news piece documents shortcomings of the university’s health system.
After a phone screening, students are limited to eight sessions of therapy a year through Loyola’s student insurance program. If the case is extreme, students are referred out for services and have to pay a deductible for care. A patient whose health isn’t deemed an emergency case can take anywhere from one to two months to secure an appointment.
These limits on care can have a negative impact on the health of our community. Loyola must increase access, offerings, and the quality of mental health services on campus. Sign this petition calling Loyola to return to its Jesuit values and address the growing mental health crisis on campus.
